For the Roval CL 50 Disc wheels, Specialized has combined the DT Swiss Competition round spokes with the CLX 50 Disc wheels, the Aero Flange Disc hubs with DT Swiss 350 interiors and steel bearings, to offer you a pair of wheels with an excellent quality ratio /price. Why with records, you say? The specific rims for discs are very resistant to impacts, thanks to the specific lay-up of carbon fibers, designed to optimize rigidity and with a weight as close as possible to the non-disc version. Furthermore, the power and modulation of the disc brakes is exceptional. Using the same wheels as the CLX 50, you can take advantage of many of the advantages of that wheel. Although the CL 50, in terms of weight, is similar to many wheels in the light wheel category, aerodynamics was the main goal of development. We used computational fluid dynamics to create the model on the computer and create the various rim profiles to make them faster and lighter. It took some time, but we reduced the number of possibilities to three 'contenders', which were then produced as prototypes to be tested in a wind tunnel. In the Wind Tunnel we tested all the wheels as well as those of the competitors, always with the same 24c tire, so as not to affect the tests. A tire with a 'modern' width was chosen because they allow lower pressure to be adopted for greater comfort and reduced rolling resistance. When combined with a circle of the correct width, they are also aerodynamically efficient.
The result of the tests is the realization of a pair of wheels with a rim depth of 50mm, weight of 1515 grams, ready for the races and accessible as a price.
