Castelli Cold Days 2nd sleeveless base layer: advanced insulation for winter cycling
The Castelli Cold Days 2nd sleeveless base layer is an innovative solution for those who practice cycling in cold conditions. Made with Polartec® Alpha® 90, an active insulating fabric in recycled PET, this Jersey delivers superior thermal performance without adding excessive weight. Unlike traditional technical base layers, Polartec® Alpha® retains elasticity and softness, ensuring comfort during long rides on gravel and road. The fabric’s high-loft structure creates air pockets that trap body heat, providing an increase of 5 °C in thermal comfort. This second layer proves particularly effective when worn over a long-sleeve technical base layer, creating an optimal combination for riding in sub-zero temperatures.
Ergonomic design and versatile use
The design of the Jersey was developed with cyclists’ specific needs in mind. The half zip, positioned slightly off-center, reduces bulk in the neck area, avoiding uncomfortable fabric buildup. This solution makes it possible to adjust ventilation without creating extra volume in the lower torso. The close fit allows the Jersey to be worn either inside or outside the Bib tight, adapting to different personal preferences. Compatibility with technical base layers such as Flanders, Bandito, Miracolo, and Seamless expands pairing options, allowing cyclists to customize their thermal layering system based on weather conditions and individual preferences.
Thermal performance and environmental sustainability
Polartec® Alpha® 90’s maximum breathability ensures that moisture generated during physical effort is effectively dispersed, preventing the sticky feeling typical of other insulations. The fabric, made from recycled PET, represents a conscious environmental choice, reducing the ecological impact of production. Polartec® Alpha® active insulation technology works in synergy with the body’s natural thermoregulation systems, retaining warmth without compromising breathability. This feature makes the Jersey ideal for extended winter rides, where moisture management is crucial to maintaining comfort and preventing hypothermia.
