Technical information

Trail wheels often divide into two categories: they are heavy and resistant or light and flexible. And for this reason, a light carbon wheel, of wide profile and ready for the enduro seems something that is found only in a fairy tale, but fortunately for you, it's reality. The Traverse SL Fattie 29 brings together all the features you need in an All-Mountain wheel in a single package and has the results to prove it. Together with the overall lightness, rigidity and duration, another absolute priority for SL Traverse was ease of use. First of all, we got ridden with straight-headed heads and the alloy nipples subject to corrosion. Subsequently, they opted for 28 J-Bend rays, both for the front wheel and the rear wheel, which are all of the same length, making it easy to find substitutes if necessary. Finally, a new design of the hub, with a wider profile and a higher flange to promote overall rigidity. The Traverse SL Fatties can be wide, but with a width of the interior circle of 30 mm, they are far from the circumference of a rim of a fat bike. But let's talk about width. You will probably have noticed that the widths of the mountain bike wheels oscillate between 19 and 23 millimeters for decades and, just to change, they waited for a long time. Looking for a better wheel design, our engineers started testing 2.3 to 2.5 inch tires on 45mm wide bike wheels to see what any advantages you could find. It took only a few laps to realize that the widest circles offered a variety of advantages, as the addition of an additional tire volume, which best supports tires in difficult curves, greatly improves traction thanks to the ability to perform pressures Lower and greatly increases the rigidity circle. However, they have noted that decreasing returns occur with increasing width and, after testing everything from 25 to 45 mm, they determined that an internal width of 30 mm is optimal. After determining the width, we started planning the circle using the knowledge acquired during the development of the Control SL. With this, we started with our Zero Bead Hook technology that eliminates the weak point that is in a traditional wheel and combined it with the wider profile to create a carbon rim that effectively dissipates the forces. In this way, you can take abuse from rocks without the worry of cracks or dents. OK, so they are strong, impact-resistant and support tires: they must be heavy, right? Wrong. Although "factie" is in their name, they are far from fat. To achieve this weight, we build our circles on our alloy hubs by hand, using only the highest quality DT Swiss Competition Race rays. Within our hubs, you will find the DT Swiss 240 interiors with a 54 T Rapid Star Ratchet System with a rapid graft in the back that allows you to enhance rocks and roots without delay. And while the machines do a good work in the construction of wheels, we choose human professionally formed because they do it with an artistic touch that creates minimum defects. Whether you need a set of carbon wheels to overcome an enduro or one to destroy your local Rock Garden, the Traverse SL Fattie covers you.
